Matthew Scarfone is a Part-time Assistant Professor (Continuing, Limited Term Appointment) in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from McGill University (2019) and previously served as a Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research examines foundational questions in metaethics and normative ethics.
Scarfone's teaching portfolio includes courses in ethics, metaethics, and philosophy of action. For the 2024-25 academic year, he is teaching Introduction to Ethics (PHL275), a Seminar in Metaethics & Moral Skepticism (PHL407), and Freedom, Responsibility, and Human Action (PHL341). His instructional approach emphasizes conceptual clarity in moral philosophy.
