Matthew Rutter

Matthew Rutter is an Associate Dean – Curriculum at the School of Health, Science and Wellbeing, Staffordshire University, with 17 years of experience in Further and Higher Education institutions and awarding bodies. He oversees curriculum development, undergraduate/postgraduate academic portfolios, student recruitment, and workforce pipeline planning, while holding national/international roles with awarding bodies like Pearson, AQA, and City and Guilds.

• Education: BA (Hons) Public Service Management, Cert. Ed. Adult and Further Education, MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice, Post Graduate Certificate in Integrated Practice with Children and Young People, and a pending DCrimJ (Professional Doctorate in Criminal Justice) focusing on trauma-informed practice in Youth Offending Teams.

His research interests center on trauma-informed practice, childhood trauma, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) in relation to offending behavior among children and young people. He has spearheaded projects in educational leadership, curriculum design, and vocational qualification development, emphasizing inclusion and employability.

With expertise in regulatory frameworks (OFSTED, TEF, Office for Students' B3 conditions), Rutter collaborates with professional bodies like NMC, HCPC, BPS, and SWE. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the UCLan Criminal Justice Partnership.
