Matthew Roughan

Dr Matthew Roughan serves as a Lecturer in the General Practice Clinical Unit at the University of Queensland's Medical School, holding qualifications including MBBS, BSc, and MPH. His academic appointment focuses on integrating clinical practice with medical education and research.

Research interests center on Addiction Medicine—specifically examining how GP registrars manage alcohol, tobacco, and other drug addiction consultations—and Public Health, leveraging his Master of Public Health degree and practical experience in Queensland Public Health Units. His work bridges clinical practice, preventive medicine, and healthcare system challenges in primary care settings.

Within the Medical School, Dr Roughan actively develops teaching resources, conducts examinations, and mentors medical students during General Practice rotations. Clinically, he maintains part-time practice as a GP registrar on Brisbane's southside, with prior hospital experience across Queensland and the Northern Territory, enriching his academic contributions with frontline healthcare insights.
