Matthew Roberts

Matthew Roberts is Associate Professor in Modern British History at Sheffield Hallam University's College of Social Sciences and Arts, specializing in 19th-century protest movements and political culture.

Research examines radical traditions including Chartism and Luddism, with emphasis on parliamentary reform processes and material culture approaches to political history. Recent publications analyze gendered dimensions of Chartism and memorialization practices.

As co-editor for Labour History Review, he maintains active scholarly engagements. Teaching includes undergraduate courses on Atlantic revolutions and historical communication methodologies.
