Matthew Ritger

Matthew Ritger is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College. He specializes in 16th and 17th century English literature, with research examining connections between literature and political ideas, particularly regarding early modern prisons. He holds a PhD from Princeton University, MFA from Cornell University, and BA from Dartmouth College.

His book project 'Houses of Correction' analyzes how writers like Shakespeare and Milton engaged with England's workhouse institutions and their societal impacts. He teaches courses on Shakespeare, poetry, early modern sexuality, and carceral studies.
