Matthew Riemland

Matthew Riemland is an Assistant Professor at SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Warsaw, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Department of English Studies. His work bridges linguistics, literary studies, and critical technology studies.

• PhD from School of Applied Language and Intercultural Studies, Dublin City University
• MA in Literary Translation from Trinity College Dublin
• BA in German and Philosophy from University of Michigan

His research focuses on: power dynamics in language, land, and labor intersections; corpus linguistics analyses of source language dominance in literary translation; ethical implications of machine translation practices for marginalized communities; and ecological consequences of AI language technologies' infrastructure. He collaborates with professional translation associations to address environmental impacts from neural machine translation systems.

At SWPS, he teaches practical English courses such as Communication Skills and Academic Writing, while supervising bachelor's theses across diverse topics.
