Matthew Poland

Matthew Poland is a Part-time Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Washington. He holds a PhD in English (2022), an M.S. in Library and Information Science (2013), and an M.A. in English Literary Studies (2009). His research focuses on 19th-century British literary globalization, archives, and transnationalism, particularly regarding George Eliot. Current roles include a 2025 Maddock Research Fellowship at Marsh's Library (Dublin) and affiliation with the University of Galway.

Research interests include global circulation of Victorian texts, settler colonialism, and periodicals studies. Recent work includes co-editing a special issue on 'Race and Transnationalism in Victorian Periodicals Studies' and a forthcoming chapter in The Routledge Companion to George Eliot. Articles explore Middlemarch's global reception and interdisciplinary approaches to Victorian literature.
