Matthew M. Heeney, MD, is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Associate Chief of Hematology at Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, where he directs the Sickle Cell Program.

Research focuses on sickle cell disease therapeutics and inherited disorders of iron metabolism. Clinical investigations include hydroxyurea alternatives for stroke prevention, prasugrel/regadenoson trials, and genetic basis of iron homeostasis abnormalities. Translational work identifies therapeutic targets through high-throughput drug screening.
As Co-Director of Hematology education at HMS, develops curriculum on anemia pathophysiology and management. Leads multicenter clinical trials through NIH consortia including SWiTCH/TWiTCH studies.
