About
Matthew Johnson is Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University, where he directs the Energy & Emissions Research Lab (EERL). His research focuses on quantifying and mitigating methane and black carbon emissions from energy systems.
Research includes developing optical measurement technologies like VentX for unsteady methane sources and sky-LOSA for black carbon emissions. Current projects involve aerial methane quantification, flare combustion efficiency, and techno-economic analysis of emission reduction strategies.
As Scientific Director of the NSERC FlareNet Strategic Network, he coordinates multi-institutional research on oil and gas flaring impacts across Canada.
