About
Matthew Johnson is Professor and Head of Department in Computer Science at Durham University. He leads research in algorithmic graph theory and combinatorial optimization through the Algorithms and Complexity research group. His work addresses fundamental problems in graph theory with applications in network design and optimization.
Professor Johnson coordinates large-scale research projects including RoboRoyale (€3.27M) and BioDiMoBot (€8M), focusing on swarm robotics and bio-inspired systems. He teaches courses on Algorithms and Data Structures and Networks and their Structure.
His research group develops novel approaches to graph partitioning, swarm coordination, and computational complexity. Recent work includes breakthroughs in understanding the complexity of graph transversals and forbidden subgraph problems, with publications in Algorithmica and Theoretical Computer Science.
