Matthew James is a Research Fellow at the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine within Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. He completed his PhD in 2022 with a thesis on host proteins essential for rhinovirus replication.
His research focuses on viral pathogenesis and immunological responses, particularly in respiratory viruses. This work has implications for therapeutic development against viral infections.
He received the Ulster Immunology Group Prize in 2016 for his contributions to immunology. Dr. James actively participates in academic networks, having hosted international researchers and co-organized the WWIEM PhD Symposium.
