Matthew Humphreys

Matthew Humphreys is a Senior Scientist at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), specializing in the marine carbon cycle and its interaction with atmospheric CO₂. His work focuses on quantifying how oceans absorb anthropogenic CO₂ and mitigating ocean acidification through chemical buffering mechanisms.

• Education: MA/MSci in Natural Sciences (Geology, University of Cambridge) and PhD in Ocean and Earth Science (University of Southampton/National Oceanography Centre).
• Research Focus: Marine biogeochemistry, seawater carbonate chemistry, and computational modeling of chemical equilibria in ocean systems.
