Professor Matthew Head is Professor of Music at King's College London. Educated at Oxford and Yale, his research explores German Romantic keyboard music, Enlightenment subjectivity, and representations of gender in 18th-century musical cultures. His monograph 'Sovereign Feminine' examines music's role in constructing femininity during this period.
Current projects investigate expressive practices in Haydn, Mozart, and C.P.E. Bach, analyzing emotional dimensions like terror, melancholy, and desire through keyboard works. He co-directs widening participation initiatives bridging King's College and St George's musical communities.
