Matthew Harding

Professor Matthew Harding is an international authority on charity law and private law theory at Melbourne Law School. His scholarship examines theoretical foundations of:

• Charitable status and public benefit requirements
• Fiduciary obligations in equity
• Not-for-profit regulatory frameworks
• Private law doctrines and their philosophical underpinnings

He has held leadership roles including Deputy Dean of Melbourne Law School (2016-2020), inaugural director of the University's Researcher Development Unit, and Chair of the Charity Law Association of ANZ. His monographs establish conceptual frameworks for understanding charity law's role in liberal states.
