Matthew Handelman

Matthew Handelman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures at Michigan State University, with concurrent roles as Associate Chair of Graduate Studies and Interim Director of Digital Humanities. He holds a PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures from the University of Pennsylvania.

• Co-leader of "Below the Line: The Feuilleton and Modern Jewish Cultures" digital project

His research explores how mathematical thinking shaped critical theory, particularly through Gershom Scholem, Franz Rosenzweig, and Siegfried Kracauer. Current work examines Kulturpolitik in critical theory from Weimar to contemporary AI contexts.
