Matthew Fielding

Dr. Matthew Fielding is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Tasmania's University College, within the Pathway Programs Department. His academic focus lies in conservation biology, terrestrial ecology, and community ecology. He holds a PhD (2022) and a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours (2017), both from the University of Tasmania.

Fielding's research explores the ecological impacts of top predator loss on scavenger dynamics, particularly in Bass Strait Islands. He also investigates roadkill ecology, climate change effects on avian species, and rewilding strategies. His work integrates spatial modeling and conservation planning to address biodiversity challenges.

He co-founded Science Made Beerable, a nonprofit promoting science communication through beer and fermentation-related content. Key grants include the Holsworth Wildlife Research Endowment ($6,725) and Birdlife Australia grants ($4,547), supporting studies on land-bridge island bird communities.
