Matthew Fay

Matthew Fay is an Early Career Research Fellow at the Institute of English Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London. His research centers on Irish theatrical archives and book provenance, with emphasis on Dublin's Abbey Theatre and literary correspondence.

His scholarly focus spans Book History, Theatre History, and Provenance Studies, with specialized expertise in Irish Literature and W. B. Yeats. Current projects include transforming his thesis on Frank Fay's theatrical archive into a monograph and analyzing wartime correspondence between Gerard and Alice Fay regarding discussed novels. His work bridges archival research with literary and performance studies.

Fay actively contributes to the WB Yeats Bedford Park Project committee, which commissioned Conrad Shawcross's commemorative sculpture "Enwrought Light". Prior to academia, he served as Head of English at a state secondary school in Esher and directed theatre productions in London and Edinburgh, bringing practical experience to his scholarly work.
