Matthew Dodd

Matthew Dodd serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Statistics within the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). He has been affiliated with LSHTM since February 2013, initially working as a Data Manager within the Clinical Trials Unit before advancing to his current academic position after completing an MSc and part-time PhD in Medical Statistics.

Dr. Dodd's research interests focus on medical statistics and clinical trials methodology, particularly statistical approaches for handling non-adherence in randomized controlled trials. His work spans cardiovascular medicine and infectious disease research, with significant contributions to major clinical trials across these domains. His methodological expertise in statistical analysis for complex trial designs has positioned him as a key contributor to numerous high-impact studies.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on cardiovascular clinical trials methodology, particularly in the REVIVED-BCIS2 and BHF PROTECT-TAVI studies. His work demonstrates expertise in statistical approaches for non-adherence analysis, composite endpoints, and risk stratification in cardiac patients. A notable secondary focus appears in tuberculosis treatment research through the TB-PRACTECAL trial.

Dr. Dodd actively contributes to teaching as co-module organizer for the Clinical Trials module (2033), tutor for the Regression module in the MSc in Medical Statistics, and support for the distance learning module Basic Statistics for Clinical Trials (CTM102).

His current grant funding includes the Barts Charity Project (April 2025-March 2026) and LAS Collaboration with London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (March 2023-February 2028), reflecting his ongoing research commitments across multiple clinical domains.

Working within LSHTM's Clinical Trials Unit, Dr. Dodd provides statistical leadership for several major randomized controlled trials including AIMS, ARREST, BHF PROTECT-TAVI, CHIP-BCIS3, ERIC-PPCI, PREVENTT, REVIVED-BCIS2, and TB Practecal, demonstrating his central role in coordinating complex multicenter research initiatives.
