Matthew Dillon is Professor of Classics and Ancient History at the University of New England's School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, with expertise in ancient Greek religion, pilgrimage, and women's roles in antiquity. His research encompasses Greek divination practices, Asklepios cults, and violence in ancient societies, supported by extensive publications including monographs on Greek pilgrimage and women's religious practices.
Teaching spans Greek and Roman history, classical languages, and religious studies. Honors include the UNE Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award and Australian National Carrick Institute Award. Current projects examine Asklepios as a healing deity and violent practices in Greek society.
