Matthew C. Batt

Matthew C. Batt serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Creative Writing at the University of St. Thomas. He teaches undergraduate courses including Critical Thinking: Literature and Writing (ENGL 121) and the Literary Magazine Practicum (ENGL 421), with Fall 2025 assignments covering two sections of ENGL 121 and the practicum course.

His research centers on Creative Nonfiction and Memoir Writing, highlighted by his published memoir Sugarhouse detailing the renovation of a former crackhouse. Batt is currently completing a second book about working in a top-tier restaurant and has recently taught courses exploring Graphic Novels as literary forms. His creative practice directly informs his pedagogy in literary magazine production and nonfiction writing.
