Matthew Amengual

Matthew Amengual is an Associate Professor of International Business at the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School and an Official Fellow at Kellogg College. His research focuses on the political dynamics of equitable and sustainable economic development, particularly examining interactions between firms, governments, and civil society in contexts with weak institutions. He holds a PhD and MA in political science from MIT, as well as an AB in Environmental Studies from Brown University.

His work explores labor and environmental regulation enforcement in middle-income and developing countries, including studies on mining communities in the Andes and labor standards in global supply chains. Key contributions include his first book, *Politicized Enforcement in Argentina*, analyzing regulatory frameworks in Latin America, and his second book, *Communities, Mines, and Distributive Politics*, examining direct contestation between firms and communities. Amengual also served as an Associate Professor at MIT before joining Oxford.

His recent research addresses labor standards in global supply chains, emphasizing mechanisms for improving compliance. He has published in top journals like the *American Sociological Review* and serves as an Associate Editor at the *Industrial and Labor Relations Review*.
