About
Matteo Palluzzi is a researcher at CIC energiGUNE, focusing on ionic liquids (ILs), deep eutectic solvents (DESs), and their applications in energy storage systems. He earned his Master’s degree (2021) and PhD (2025) in Chemistry and Chemical Sciences, respectively, from La Sapienza - University of Rome (Italy), under the supervision of Prof. Maria Assunta Navarra and Prof. Paola D’Angelo.
Education:
- Master’s in Chemistry, La Sapienza - University of Rome (2021)
- PhD in Chemical Sciences, La Sapienza - University of Rome (2025)
Research interests:
- Liquid electrolytes
- Ionic liquids
- Deep eutectic solvents
- Post-lithium batteries
- Lithium batteries
- Physical Chemistry
- Material Science
- Electrochemistry
- Characterization of materials for energy storage
During his PhD, Palluzzi conducted six-month research stays at Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) and Eco Recycling S.r.l. (Italy). His doctoral work focused on greener synthesis routes for oxalatoborate-based ILs in high-voltage lithium-ion batteries and DESs for zinc batteries. Post-PhD, he continued investigating DESs for sodium and zinc battery systems at La Sapienza until June 2025, then joined CIC energiGUNE’s Organic and Hybrid Materials Research Group, working on sodium-ion battery electrolytes.
