Matteo Nicolini

Matteo Nicolini is an Associate Professor of Comparative Public Law at the University of Verona's Department of Legal Sciences, with additional research affiliation at the Institute for Comparative Federalism, European Academy of Bolzano/Bozen (EURAC). He also serves as a Visiting Lecturer at Newcastle University Law School (UK) and is a member of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS).

Nicolini earned his Ph.D. from the University of Verona in 2005. His academic career includes visiting positions at University of Stellenbosch, Newcastle University, and University of Tubingen where he delivered specialized courses on Legal Geography. He has lectured at institutions across Europe including universities in Lille, Innsbruck, Barcelona, Madrid, and Alberto Hurtado University in Chile.

Professor Nicolini's research spans comparative constitutional law, legal geography, federalism, and interdisciplinary legal studies. His work explores the spatial dimensions of law, constitutional transformations, and the intersection of law with literature and linguistics. His scholarship demonstrates particular expertise in African constitutional law and legal pluralism across diverse jurisdictions.

His recent publications reveal a growing focus on geo-legal frameworks, with increasing attention to transnational governance, territorial boundaries, and environmental law. Nicolini's work on "Swinging Peripheries And Centers in Europe" and "Verso le foci" demonstrates his commitment to understanding how spatial considerations shape legal frameworks in contemporary Europe.

Nicolini serves on multiple institutional committees including as President of the Network of Sustainable Universities and leadership roles in academic governance structures at the University of Verona. His teaching portfolio spans multiple degree programs including Comparative Constitutional Law, Global Comparative Law, and specialized courses in Legal Geography across law, emergency governance, and sustainability-focused programs.
