About
Dr Matteo Mazzamurro is a Lecturer in Data Science at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), affiliated with the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences and the transnational Queen Mary School Hainan programme. He holds an MMath in Mathematics from Imperial College London (2017) and a PhD in Urban Science from the University of Warwick (2022). His research focuses on theoretical and applied network science, including historical transportation networks (e.g., Roman roads, 19th-century railways) and entropy-based metrics for network centralization.
Previously, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Aarhus University (2023-2024) in the Centre for Urban Network Evolutions and the Social Resilience Lab. He co-organizes the Barcelona Past Networks Summer School, which introduces humanities scholars to network theory without requiring prior computational background.
His publications bridge mathematical rigor with interdisciplinary applications, including resolving Yan's entropy conjecture and analyzing urban polycentricity patterns in Victorian England. He actively collaborates with global institutions and contributes to digital scholarship in humanities.
