Matteo Ficarra

Matteo Ficarra is a PhD Candidate in International Economics at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and a Research Fellow at the Hoffmann Centre for Global Sustainability. His research focuses on the intersection of macroeconomics, fiscal policy, and climate change. He is currently on the 2025/26 job market.

Matteo's research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics and fiscal policy, with a particular focus on climate change. His work includes empirical studies on the economic and inflationary effects of natural disasters, the role of green investments in economic growth, and trade and innovation in the MENA region. He employs both theoretical and empirical approaches to address pressing global challenges.

Matteo's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applied economics, particularly in the areas of climate change adaptation, green investment, and international trade. His work spans multiple regions including Europe and MENA, and utilizes diverse methodologies from macroeconomic modeling to survey-based analysis. Notable contributions include studies on the sectoral impacts of floods and the digitalization of European businesses.
