Matt Rayson

Dr. Matt Rayson is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Earth and Oceans, University of Western Australia (UWA). His research focuses on physical oceanography, particularly numerical modeling and observational studies of coastal and shelf seas. He specializes in internal waves, turbulence, and hydrodynamic processes influenced by tides and storms. Dr. Rayson leads the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hub for Offshore Floating Facilities and contributes to the SUNTANS ocean model development. His work addresses challenges in metocean dynamics, sediment transport, and uncertainty quantification.

Research interests include internal tide generation, storm-induced near-inertial waves, and nonlinear wave dynamics. He has authored over 39 publications, with recent contributions on mesoscale eddy impacts and surface-layer fronts. His collaborations span institutions globally, including Stanford University and the Bureau of Meteorology. Awards include the APS/DFD Gallery of Fluid Motion Award (2017).
