Matt Novak is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animation & Game Art at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D), where he has taught for many years. His expertise spans animation, game art, and children's book illustration, reflecting a rich interdisciplinary background in visual storytelling.
His research and creative interests center on animation techniques, children's literature, and digital illustration. With nearly 35 years of professional experience, he has authored and illustrated numerous acclaimed picture books, including The Everything Machine, Flip Flop Bop, and The Pillow War. His work bridges artistic practice and educational mentorship, particularly in character design and narrative development.
Matt has received notable recognition for his creative output, including being named a School Library Journal Best Book of the Year for Mouse TV and winning the IRA Children’s Choice Award for Newt.
As an educator and former Disney artist, he has contributed to major animated films such as Rescuers Down Under and Beauty and the Beast, and has led various freelance animation projects for television and web platforms. He has also worked as a puppeteer and teacher, further enriching his pedagogical approach.
