Matt Malone is the Samuelson-Glushko Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law (Common Law Section) and Director of the Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic (CIPPIC). He is a PhD candidate in Law at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society. His education includes degrees from the University of Toronto (hBA), Hebrew University of Jerusalem (MA), and McGill University (LLB, BCL).
Research focuses on legal protection of secret information (trade secrets, confidentiality, data privacy), cybersecurity, and modern workplace legal challenges. He advises on Internet policy advocacy through CIPPIC and collaborates with organizations like the Investigative Journalism Foundation and BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association. Previously practiced law in California, specializing in high-tech sector employment disputes and workplace investigations, representing global clients.
Bar admissions include British Columbia, California, and New York. Engaged in pro bono LGBTQ+ legal advocacy. Current roles combine academic research, clinical legal education, and public interest policy work.
