Matt MacDonald is a Lecturer in the Department of English at Carleton University, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He holds an M.A. from the University of Windsor and a B.A. from Brandon University. His teaching experience includes courses on academic writing at the University of Winnipeg and contemporary literature at Brandon University.
MacDonald’s research explores physically impossible heterotopias in fiction, drawing on Foucault’s framework to analyze how fantastical spaces like flying castles or dream dimensions reconfigure power relations. His interdisciplinary work intersects with science fiction, speculative fiction,

He is currently investigating the role of fictional heterotopias in disrupting or reimagining real-world power structures.
