About
Dr Matt Jones is a Lecturer in Cancer Biology at the Peninsula Medical School (Faculty of Health) within the University of Plymouth. His research focuses on cellular mechanisms underlying cancer progression, particularly the interplay between the cell cycle, cell adhesion, and the tumor microenvironment. Key areas of investigation include integrin signaling, cytoskeletal dynamics, and mechanosensitive proteins such as talin and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK1).
Dr Jones has contributed to defining novel adhesion complex structures (e.g., reticular adhesions) and their roles during mitosis, as well as elucidating how extracellular matrix interactions regulate cell migration and invasion. His work bridges molecular biology, cell biology, and mathematical modeling to understand complex biological systems.
His research outputs demonstrate a sustained focus on adhesion biology since 2015, with publications addressing topics like ESCRT scaffolds, clathrin-containing adhesions, and the role of CDK1 in modulating cell adhesion during the cell cycle.
