Matt Hart

Matt Hart is a Lecturer in the Department of Media at the University of Adelaide's School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. He completed his PhD in Sociology at La Trobe University (2017) following a first-class honours degree in sociology at the University of Wollongong (2013).

As a media sociologist, Hart specializes in youth digital media practices and risk dynamics. His research has explored:

• Social media's role in intimate risk engagement through nude selfie sharing on Tumblr
• Mental health impacts in esports and livestreaming environments (e.g., Twitch.tv 'trauma dumping')
• Sociocultural analysis of 'Incels' through process-sociological frameworks examining historical shifts in gender interactions

His work appears in leading journals including Young and Journal of Youth Studies. Hart is eligible to supervise Masters and PhD candidates, focusing on intersections of media, youth, and risk.
