About
Matt Evans is Professor of Civil and Construction Engineering at Oregon State University's College of Engineering. His research spans granular mechanics, biocementation, and geotechnical system performance, with applications in sustainable infrastructure and natural hazard mitigation.
Education includes PhD and MS from Georgia Tech in Civil Engineering, BS from University of New Mexico, and BA in Physics from University of Virginia. Prior to academia, he worked on waste encapsulation technologies.
Research integrates experimental and computational methods to address challenges in renewable energy infrastructure, coastal resilience, and sustainable materials. Current projects investigate biocementation for erosion control and DEM modeling of granular systems.
Awards include ASCE Associate Editor of the Year (2018) for Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering. Research is funded through multiple NSF and industry partnerships.
