Mats Wallin is a Professor and Director of the AlbaNova University Center at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He holds a PhD from Umeå University (1990), followed by a postdoctoral position at Indiana University (1991–1992) before joining KTH in 1993. His research focuses on theoretical physics, with emphasis on condensed matter systems, quantum technology, phase transitions, disordered systems, superconductivity, and bacterial biophysics. He employs analytical and numerical methods, particularly Monte Carlo simulations.
Wallin teaches courses in engineering physics, theoretical physics, and thermodynamics at KTH, serving as an examiner, course coordinator, and lecturer for multiple advanced-level programs. He actively supervises thesis and internship projects in his research areas.
As Director of AlbaNova University Center since 2021, he leads a hub for physics and astronomy research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between KTH and Stockholm University.
