Mats Viberg

Mats Viberg is a Professor of Signal Processing at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) with a 60% appointment, and also maintains a 40% appointment at Chalmers University of Technology since September 1, 2024. Previously, he served as Rector of Blekinge Institute of Technology from September 1, 2018 to August 31, 2024. Before his administrative leadership role, Viberg was employed at Chalmers University of Technology since 1993 as a Professor of Signal Processing, establishing a lengthy academic career spanning over three decades in signal processing research.

Professor Viberg's research focuses on statistical signal processing with particular emphasis on multi-sensor data applications. His work bridges theoretical foundations with practical implementations in engineering systems, addressing challenges in array processing, direction of arrival estimation, and wireless communications. His research has evolved from fundamental signal processing theory to address contemporary challenges in modern communication technologies, particularly in massive MIMO systems.
