Mathias Schuetz is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and an adjunct professor at the Botany department of the University of British Columbia. He holds a B.Sc. and Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University and has over 15 years of experience in plant molecular biology and biochemistry.

His research focuses on plant metabolite biosynthesis, export, and sequestration mechanisms, spanning model plants like Arabidopsis thaliana and Populus trichocarpa, as well as economically important species like Cannabis sativa and Humulus lupulus. He leads the NextGen Hops project, a collaborative variety development program with local hop producers at KPU's Applied Genomics Center.
He supervises graduate students and accepts research students through the KPU Student Research Innovation Grants. He teaches courses such as BIOL 1210 and BIOL 3225, integrating molecular biology and plant genetics into his curriculum.
