Mathias Klumpp

Prof. Dr. Mathias Klumpp holds the academic rank of Professor and is affiliated with the University of Duisburg-Essen, specifically leading the BMBF Research Group HELENA at the Institute for Production and Industrial Information Management. He previously served at the FOM University of Applied Sciences Essen, leading the Institute for Logistics and Service Management since 2009. His roles include conference chair for the 2014 EAIR Forum and membership in associations like BME, BVL, and GOR.

Education: He studied business administration and economics at the University of Leipzig and IECS Strasbourg, and higher education management at Humboldt-University Berlin and the University of Kassel (INCHER). He earned his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Leipzig in 2007, with research stays at the University of Sydney and later at institutions like IDSIA (Switzerland) and TU Istanbul.

Research focuses on five core areas: logistics education frameworks, sustainable supply chain management (e.g., electric trucks in urban logistics), real-time information systems in dynamic logistics, humanitarian logistics optimization, and efficiency analysis of higher education institutions using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). His projects include WiWeLo (logistics education structures), E-Route (electric truck analysis), and LOGFOR (logistics trends).

Teaching integrates state-of-the-art research, emphasizing practical applications in logistics education and CSR-driven systems. He contributes to international collaborations, including the EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr and the EU Commission’s ESCO Reference Group.
