Mathew Swallow is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at Mount Royal University. He holds a B.Sc in Environmental and Conservation Sciences and a Ph.D. in Soil Science from the University of Alberta. His professional experience encompasses work in Alberta’s forests, grasslands, and human-impacted soils, including reconstructed soils post-mining and urban development zones.
Swallow’s research explores the interactions between soil ecosystems and broader environments, development of soil science analytical techniques, community-based soil education, and assessment of human activity impacts on soil. He teaches courses including Introduction to Soil Science (ENVS 2203), Soil Genesis and Land Use (ENVS 4406), and Environmental Research Methods (ENVS 4201).
