Mathew Mitchell

Dr. Mathew Mitchell is a Faculty Emeritus and Professor in the Department of Learning and Instruction at the University of San Francisco. He has been affiliated with USF since 1992 and currently serves as Co-Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and Program Coordinator for Digital Technologies for Teaching & Learning. His work focuses on integrating technology into education, particularly in multimedia learning, student motivation, and mathematics education.

Education:

• PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara

Research & Contributions: Dr. Mitchell pioneered the use of student-generated multimedia in education and has been recognized with the CIT Grand Award (2003). He co-founded the CTE in 2011, which supports faculty development in technology integration. His research emphasizes effective multimedia design, flipped classrooms, and e-learning strategies. He has authored books such as Making Educational Multimedia and Mastermind Mathematics, and contributed to the Encyclopedia of Distance Learning.

Teaching & Leadership: He teaches courses in Applied Statistics, Cognitive Psychology, and Multimedia Learning. He is redesigning the Educational Technology program, contributing two core courses. His advisory and leadership roles reflect his commitment to bridging pedagogy and technology.
