About
Matei Radulescu is a Full Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ottawa since 2018, part of the Faculty of Engineering. He joined the university in 2006 as an Assistant Professor and has held roles such as Visiting Professor at Caltech (2015). His expertise spans reactive compressible flows, gas dynamics of reactive systems, and explosion safety. Radulescu earned his BEng, MEng, and PhD from McGill University, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at Stanford and Princeton.
His research focuses on detonation dynamics, shock wave interactions, and hydrogen technologies. He has supervised over 50 students and published over 80 journal papers, achieving 4000+ citations and an h-index of 35. Awards include the Bernard Lewis Fellowship and inclusion in Stanford’s Top 2% Scientists (2023). He serves on editorial boards of Progress in Energy and Combustion Science and Combustion Theory and Modelling.
Teaching includes Fluid Mechanics II, Gasdynamics, and Dynamics of Detonation Waves. Notable collaborations include work with KAUST researchers and presentations at international conferences like ICDERS. His lab, Radulescu Gasdynamics Laboratory, explores topics like shock instability in granular gases and molecular hotspots in reaction dynamics.
