Marybeth Poder is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Akron. She teaches courses in first-year writing, Fiction Appreciation, Introductory Linguistics, and Twentieth Century Literature. Her research focuses on pedagogy and the rhetorics of social change movements, particularly student empowerment through fostering identity safety and belonging. She has published a scholarly chapter titled “Making Use of the Mundane: The Women’s Trade Union League’s Fight to Give Working Women a Voice” in the collection Women at Work: Rhetorics of Gender and Labor. Currently, she is developing a project aimed at equipping instructors of remedial university courses to enhance student success.
