Mary Youssef

Mary Youssef is an Associate Professor affiliated with the Translation Research and Instruction Program (TRIP) and the Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies at Binghamton University. Her work bridges literary scholarship with postcolonial and migration studies.

Her research focuses on the Contemporary Egyptian Novel, Modern Arabic Literature, Arab Diasporic Literature, and African Literature, with additional interests in Race Studies, Gender Studies, and Translation Theory.

Mary Youssef’s publications highlight her expertise in Arab American literature, post-2011 Egyptian fiction, and critical analysis of themes like national identity and urban space. Her recent works explore cultural translation, satirical narratives, and representations of otherness.

She holds a PhD and MA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a BA from Cairo University. Her teaching emphasizes Modern Arabic Literature and Postcolonial Theory.
