Mary Swarthout

Dr. Mary Swarthout is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Sam Houston State University's College of Science & Engineering Technology. Her academic background includes a B.A. from Berea College, an M.A. from Miami University, and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

Her research focuses on the use of concept maps to enhance content understanding among preservice and inservice teachers, alongside innovative applications of technology and manipulative materials in mathematics education. She investigates pedagogical strategies that bridge theoretical frameworks with classroom practices to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
