Mary Step

Mary Step is Associate Professor of Health Sciences researching health communication in clinical and digital contexts. She develops interventions like the Positive Peers app for HIV+ youth, demonstrating improved care retention and viral suppression. Her NIH/NCI-funded work spans:

• Tobacco cessation counseling
• Stigma reduction in HIV care
• Social media health messaging

Current implementation scales Positive Peers nationally while examining platform effects on intersectional stigma. Step teaches health communication across undergraduate and clinical training programs.
