Mary Neal is a Reader in Law at the University of Strathclyde, affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. She holds LLB (Honours) and LLM degrees from the University of Glasgow and a PhD from Cardiff University (2005). Her research focuses on healthcare law, bioethics, legal theory, conscientious objection in healthcare, and beginning/end-of-life issues. She leads projects like ACoRN (Royal Society of Edinburgh-funded) and has contributed to parliamentary scrutiny of assisted dying and abortion laws in Scotland, Ireland, and the Isle of Man.
Dr. Neal teaches Healthcare Law and Ethics, supervises doctoral students, and has co-edited books such as Ethical Judgments: Re-writing Medical Law. She chairs expert panels, including the CORALE project's Advisory Board, and serves on the editorial board of The New Bioethics. Her work intersects law, ethics, and vulnerable populations, emphasizing dignity, property theory, and professional ethics.
