About
Professor Mary Moroney joined the Department of Linguistics in January 2022. She earned her PhD from Cornell University in 2021, specializing in nominal structure and interpretation through fieldwork on Shan, an understudied Kra-Dai language. Her research explores semantics, syntax, definiteness, quantification, and comparative structures through linguistic fieldwork in Southeast Asia.
Recent publications focus on comparative structures in Shan language, classifier systems, and typological studies of definiteness. Her work consistently demonstrates innovative approaches to documenting understudied languages and contributes significantly to theoretical linguistics.
