Mary C. Toale

Mary C. Toale, Ed.D., serves as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at SUNY Geneseo. A first-generation college graduate and former student-athlete, she has over 25 years of leadership in higher education, advocating for equity-centered approaches to student development, faculty/staff support, and institutional effectiveness. Her career includes executive roles at SUNY Oswego (Deputy to the President, Officer in Charge) and faculty/leadership positions at West Virginia Wesleyan College and Baldwin Wallace University.

Dr. Toale holds a doctorate in instructional communication from West Virginia University, a master’s in communication theory from WVU, and a bachelor’s in secondary mathematics education (cum laude) from West Virginia Wesleyan College. Her scholarly work focuses on pedagogical strategies and communication in education, with conference presentations and editorial board contributions to peer-reviewed journals.

Her leadership emphasizes collaborative strategic planning, shared governance, and advancing inclusive educational practices. Prior roles included interim department chairs and faculty positions across multiple institutions, reflecting her commitment to both academic excellence and accessible education.
