Dr. Martyn Quigley is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology at Swansea University, within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science. Previously, he worked at the University of Nottingham, where he completed an ESRC-funded PhD in Psychology under Professor Mark Haselgrove. Prior to academia, he was affiliated with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). His research focuses on factors influencing learning and behavior through associative theories, with a dual emphasis on theoretical and applied studies exploring attention, avoidance, anxiety, and schizotypy. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and investigates pedagogical strategies to enhance student engagement, employability, and wellbeing, particularly through analyzing individual differences like personality traits.
His research interests span learning mechanisms, fear conditioning, and higher education dynamics. Recent studies include investigations into cue competition in associative learning, fear generalization, and the impact of pandemic-related stress on psychological wellbeing. Dr. Quigley has secured grants such as the £65,000 Welsh Government-funded project on post-lockdown life and a study evaluating employability courses.
He supervises postgraduate research, including current work on gambling interventions. Courses he teaches emphasize foundational research methods, statistics, and professional development, integrating career planning and academic skills. His collaborative projects address real-world issues like AI in education and graduate recruitment challenges.
