Marty Robinson is Professor of Trumpet and Jazz at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, directing jazz ensembles and teaching jazz history. He holds a B.M. in Trumpet Performance from Lawrence University, M.M. in Jazz Studies from Eastman School of Music, and D.M. in Composition from Florida State University. Previously, he was Associate Professor at Florida A&M University (1994-2004), receiving Teacher of the Year honors in 2001.
Research integrates jazz performance, composition, and historical analysis. Creative output includes over 140 jazz compositions and arrangements published by UNC Jazz Press, alongside classical works for orchestra, wind ensemble, and chamber groups. Commissions feature collaborations with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Boston Pops, and soloists like Byron Stripling.
Awards include 2001 Teacher of the Year. Professional recordings span jazz standards, television/film scores (HBO's The Sopranos, NFL Films), and collaborative albums. He serves as faculty at Birch Creek Summer Jazz Academy and chaired Wisconsin's 2016 High School Honors Jazz Ensemble.
