Martha 'Marty' Gimson is a Lecturer in Anthropology at UNC Charlotte specializing in historical archaeology of marginalized communities. Her research documents unmarked African American burial grounds using GIS, remote sensing, and skeletal analysis to examine systemic violence patterns in the southeastern United States.
She holds an M.A. from UNC Charlotte (2021) and B.A. from UNC Chapel Hill (1998). Gimson works as a Cultural Resource Consultant supporting preservation initiatives and historical interpretation of enslaved populations.
