Martina Merz

Prof. Dr. Martina Merz is a University Professor and Head of the Department of Science Communication and Higher Education Research at Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. She also holds visiting roles at the Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence (University of Helsinki) and Bielefeld University’s Faculty of Mathematics. Her research focuses on knowledge cultures, scientific practices (e.g., modeling, simulation), interdisciplinary collaboration, science governance, and the role of digital technologies in academia.

Her current projects include 'Producing Novelty & Securing Credibility in LHC Experiments' (FWF-funded, 2020–2024) and 'Interdisciplining the University' (Academy of Finland, 2016–2020). She co-edited *The Local Configuration of New Research Fields* (2016) and organized events like the WWTF Summer School 'Opening the Black Box of Quality' (2016).

She has secured grants from FWF, Academy of Finland, and WWTF, and her work intersects STS (Science and Technology Studies), sociology of science, and higher education policy.
